Hankering for Yarn

December charities-Heartfelt gifting

Kate over at  Babylune, is hosting a very special contest through out December.  She wants  to encourage us a spirit of positive action.  Yay, Kate!

Her contest is called “Generous December” , which I think is just great.  Kate is going to make a donation to the favorite charity of the contest participants.

I have a hard time deciding which one of my charities is my absolute favorite. We have a group of charities that we support, locally, nationally and internationally.

Well…. I think I’ll vote for

The Stephen Lewis foundation:  The Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) helps to ease the pain of HIV/AIDS in Africa at the grassroots level. It provides care to women who are ill and struggling to survive; assists orphans and other AIDS affected children; supports heroic grandmothers who almost single-handedly care for their orphan grandchildren; and supports associations of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Stephen Lewis is one of my great heroes. I LOVE the work he is doing with Grannies in Africa.  There are so many women who have worked incredibly hard all their lives, and now, they are coping with the deaths of their adult children. They not only have to deal with that grief, but they have to raise their grandbabies in outrageously difficult circumstances.  So, bless Stephen Lewis for working his fingers to the bone to help these amazing women.

I want to be a grannie myself, some day. And, I want my grandbabies to grow up in a world that has kindness and generosity as one of it’s pillars.

So, Stephen Lewis, thank you. Thank you.

hugs all round, and thanks, Kate, for giving me a chance to sing Mr. Lewis’s praises!

Noreen, this is exactly the kind of entry I hoped to read when I thought of the Generous December GWP! And, really, I am not just saying that because you mentioned my name 3 times.

The Stephen Lewis foundation does wonderful work and I congratulate you for promoting it and giving it a meaningful, personal spin.
