Did You Know This About “Vogue Knitting?”

Everyone who knows me, knows that my favorite magazine is “Vogue Knitting.” I like some others as well, but I buy VK without even looking inside; there aren’t many magazines you can say that about. I buy it sight unseen for all intents and purposes.
VK patterns are stylish, modern, use incredible yarns, and have good instructions. But everyone does make a mistake from time-to-time and VK isn’t above an error. When that error occurs within one of the patterns, that can be a real problem; it is extremely frustrating to be knitting along and knowing you are doing what the pattern requests, and yet having it turn out to be a disaster.
This is where corrections come in. In the old days, the pre-Internet days, corrections were printed in the next magazine that went to press; the service was there to help the reader. Unfortunately that could only make matters worse for users of VK patterns because this magazine is only issued three times each year, with an occasional special issue. That could mean a long, long wait.
But now, via the wonders of technology, those of us who still use fibers and wood needles (ok, plastic and aluminum ones too), can find the corrections we need right away. On the “Vogue Knitting,” Web site, there is a link that takes you to corrections. It might be a good idea to print those corrections (even if you don’t plan to make them, you might sell your old VK issues on Ebay or somewhere) and staple them to the correct pattern. It won’t take but a few minutes but might save your sanity or someone else’s.
Oh, while you are at VK bookmarking the corrections page, check out the front page of the site. They are not only featuring the Winter issue (I am so hoping that is in the store next week – there is a shrug and a top I want to make!!) but they are featuring their spin-off magazine for younger knitters, “Knit .1,” which is a wonderful publication. The patterns are hip, the size of the magazine just cries out, “take me with you,” and it has a lot of fun, inexpensive projects. I love it and think it would be useful in convincing young people to try knitting.
