Mercy! We have had a 4 day long blizzard.  We’re just emerging from it now (fingers crossed!).

It’s been the coldest, fiercest, longest April storm that has ever been recorded here.  Global weirding…….

We were snowed in yesterday… and the tractor cratered, so it needed to be re-invigorated, in the middle of the storm….

Our son and daughter-in-law began their morning by slipping off the driveway…

ugh

That’s me, fighting the wind to go to the woodshed for wood for the woodburning stove in the studio. The woodshed had been all full up with wood for -next- winter. Hah! It’s gone now!

The wind has been incredible! It’s like Siberia!

Crumbs! Last week, it was summer, and we were worried that it was so dry!

Here’s my most favorite pic:

This is one of the windows in my studio. And yes, the snow is RIGHT up to the TOP of the windows.  I loved the shapes the snow made against the glass, and had to take a pic.

I got tired of not being able to see out the windows for 4 days, and was so relieved when the snow stopped an hour or so ago.  There were strange sounds and the snow suddenly slumped off the studio windows  and I can see again! Yay!

I’ve been watching the snow build up on top of the ash can outside the door of the studio:

It’s several feet tall now. And the snow up the sidewalk to the studio is hip deep in places.  Hip deep on a 6′4″ man, that is.

It has been the most eery and un-nerving Earth Day for us.

This is not right……………

  1. Incredible, Noreen! Friends in South Dakota said they recently had a blizzard, too. I like that…global weirding.

  2. Terri says:

YIKES! That is quite a storm….stay warm and I hope it melts soon and gently….and that spring truly arrives.

    Terri

  3. Noreen says:

It sure knocked us for a loop. Talk about bringing home the consequences of the global climate changes….. yikes….

  4. Cherie says:

We had one here too. One minute everything is starting to turn green and warm up, and the next minute we have so much snow we can’t get out of the driveway!

  5. Noreen says:

Just watched a show on global challenges on PBS…. sure makes me want to be careful about the choices we make!

  6. Wendy says:

    Noreen,
A friend from Syracuse, NY likes to tell me about the time it snowed in May on Mother’s Day. Global weirding!!! Good luck in getting shoveled out.
    Wendy

  7. Noreen says:

    Hi Wendy :o )
Actually, many times, we have had whalloping big dumps of snow on May 19th! It breaks the branches on the trees, because the trees are out in their full glory. The snow messes things up properly and then is melted the next day.
This blizzard, however, was a 4 day whammer, and we’re still cold, days later…..
    oh, our poor little planet!
Thanks for the warm wishes! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  8. Wendy says:

    Noreen,
Egads!! I didn’t realize you were that far north. As long as it doesn’t snow for Canada Day, right? My birthday is right between Canada Day and the 4th of July. I’ve always wanted to go to Canada to celebrate my birthday and Canada Day and be home in time for the fireworks for Independence Day.
I hope it is warmer for you this week.
    Wendy

  9. Noreen says:

    Hello Wendy
We’re in Alberta, and are quite far north.

We’re having a gorgeous few days and then, :o ( they are forecasting the possibility of snow flurries! It’s all because of global climate changes. The kind of blizzard we had last week was the first ever in April. NOT good…….

If you’re going to celebrate your birthday in Canada for Canada Day, definitely go to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, and go to the celebrations on capital hill! It’s a VERY big deal!

Happy Early Birthday, and may you have many, many more!
