Flora, the Fanciful Flat Fiber Friend doll, who will be modelling all the FFFF Doll clothes and accessories in this series, would like to give you a sneak peak at some of the things that are going to be coming soon to Hankering for Yarn:

Lots of fibery and craftie goodness, so stay tuned!
The Fanciful Flat Fiber Friend Dolls series started here: Part One
And, today, I am going to show you how to take a vintage hankie or a square of lightweight fabric and make a super simple no-sew skirt for your FFFF Doll (or other small doll).
I love vintage hankies, and whenever I find them in second hand stores, I buy them.
This one is about 10 inches square, which is just slightly too large for the skirt for Flora and her FFFF Dolly friends,
so, I folded it in half, ironed it, and then folded down an inch or so at the top fold:

I turned it over, and slid a 12 inch/30 cm long ribbon inside the fold, then placed Flora on the hankie:

Then, I tied a bow with the ribbon, and spread the gathers out in a pleasing way.
When I was making vintage hankie skirts for some of Flora’s friends, I twigged that I could just use rubber bands or hair elastics for the waistband instead of ribbons. That works even better than the ribbon!

Flora was interested in seeing the skirts that some of her Fanciful Flat Fiber Friends were wearing, so she went off for a visit:

They all liked each other’s skirts so much that they have decided that they will lend them to each other.
And, oh yes, they all really liked each other’s Origami Kimono’s, too…

Hi William
Oh wow! That is amazing! thank you! I LOVE that kind of creativity!
I love that this uses vintage hankies without destroying them– what a great idea!
Hi Perry
Thanks! Yes…. I love to use treasures in ‘archival’ ways that allow me to enjoy the treasure but not harm it….
