Farewell Valentine to a dear old friend

Yesterday, our dear old Newfie crossed over the rainbow bridge.
He was a treasure that we have been blessed to share 13 years with.

On May 8 of 1994, our son woke up and told me that he had had an important dream. There was a black puppy waiting for us at the SPCA. So, off we went, and sure enough, our beautiful, jolly teddybear was there. It was love at first sight, and we never looked back.
That goofy, heartrendingly adorable teddybear of a puppy grew up to be a great big, noble, gentle, loving and generous dog. He had a stately presence, with a huge leonine head and thick thick coat.
Over the years, I have spun a lot of yarn from his fuzzies.
I’ve made many teddy bears, little dogs, a sweater, and even a blankie from his ‘wool’. In this last year, he would not tolerate being groomed, so we ‘groomed’ the rug, and not so much him! This put an end to my spinning his wool.

The black teddy on the left was made with his yarn. The kitten on the chair was made with fuzz from my beloved cat who died suddenly last summer. I made the little dog on the right from yarn that I spun from a beloved dog that was our cherished companion (and his surrogate mom) for 15 years.
They are all together now, I am sure.
I am so glad that we have these small treasures from our darling animal companions. I was thrilled to find several skeins of our Newfie-luv’s yarn yesterday, and am spoolknitting Puppy Angels with it for our son and daughter.

Saying goodbye to a beloved animal companion is a heart wrenching experience.
But, my heart is also full of gratitude for all the lovely memories, and wonderful blessings that this noble, gracious friend gifted us with.
Goodbye, dearest old boy…….. love you forever……

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. I think knitting little bears from his fur is a wonderful way to remember him.

Thank you so much, Isela
I am really happy to be able to make little mementoes with his wool. Wish I could spin the short short short hairs that come off our greyhound and chihuahua!
