This shrug may be closer to what people think of when they think of freeform crochet:

I crocheted this freeform shrug with yarns that I spun myself.
I combined it with woven bands, the occasional bead and crocheted figures, and embroidered pieces:

Oh, yes, I also included some small woven squares and some tatting….. oh, and a knitted swatch…….. and, of course, spoolknitting…..
It’s a really fun thing to wear. It’s not subtle, so I don’t wear it if I am not prepared to answer questions.
hugs all round,
Noreen
PS: I am weaving the bands for the vest for my daughter’s fiance to wear under his tuxedo for their wedding, and I will also be weaving the bands to make the vest that I’ll be wearing. So, I will be uploading tutorials on how to make a vest with woven narrow bands, so stay tuned!

this is gorgeous!!! WOW!! i am not usually into freeform but THIS is a wow!!
Thank you so much, Carmella! You just made my day! I am grinning from ear to ear!
