Hankering for Yarn

Halloween Dolls to weave on potholder loom

Last summer, Syne Mitchel invited me to contribute some more designs to Weavezine. I suggested some Halloween dolls, and Syne said, “Yes!”

So, I had a

delightful time,

designing and

making these

charming and

somewhat  zany

dolls.

Here’s the link for  how to weave the Halloween Dolls on the potholder loom on Weavezine (which is an awesome online zine).

While I was looking for props for the photo shoot, I found the wonderful little cauldrons that I turned into pincushions.

Here’s the link for how to make a pumpkin pincushion from a miniature cauldron.

Can you see the pumpkin sitting on the chair next to the Pumpkin head doll in the middle chair?

Well.. it’s a pin cushion, too.  And, I am working on a tutorial for how to make it, so I’ll post that tomorrow.

I used fabric from  wild and crazy embroidered pillows that were in the ‘take it home or I’ll throw it in the trash’ box at a garage sale last summer. I have been upcycling the fabric from the pillows ever since.

Oh, by the way… in the photo at the top of this post, you’ll see a scarecrow with a woven head.

I bought him at my fave thrift store as a prop for the photo shoot.

He had a ceramic frog head. I pulled it off and gave it right back to the thrift store.

I wove him a new head. So, if you happen to have a doll that needs a better head, weave it!

Hope you will enjoy weaving these Halloween dolls- I love showing the creative potential of the humble potholder loom!
