Hollyhock window

The south wall of my studio is a wall of windows.
Our house is built into a hillside and is passive solar, so the winter sun heats the studio beautifully. (The walls are 12 inches thick!)
In the summer, the hollyhocks grow up in front of the studio windows, and shade the studio from the intense heat. Although, we do have a pergola thingie that blocks most of the intense sunshine.
VERY neat!
Last week, the hollyhocks hadn’t quite covered the windows:
By next week the hollyhocks will be up to the second story of the house!
The flowers are starting to open, which the hummingbirds think is just divine!
Soon, they’ll be ablaze with huge, glorious blossoms!
And, all my houseplants are in bloom right now, so I am feeling quite bloomieblessed!
This is such a neat house that it’ll be hard to find something as magical when we move next year….
ack… moving…. ack….
I’ll take hollyhock seeds with me…..

I’m jealous – my hollyhocks haven’t opened yet! But then, you always have the best ones
We;ll have to gather lots of seeds in the fall!
) I would love to have white hollyhocks….
I’m just getting around to checking my mail…
_gorgeous_. I am jealous, my hollyhocks grow for a few years, than die. What am I doing wrong?
I’m sorry, Robin! I don’t know what’s happening with your hollyhocks…. ours just keep coming back, thank goodness!
Have you asked at your local garden center?
Oh – I love that window in your studio and the hollyhocks are always so amazing!!
Hugs,
Terri
Hello Terri
) yes, the window is a constant source of amazement! Snow on it in winter and hollyhocks creating ‘fairy land’ in summer. They are more and more in bloom! It’s glorious!
