Much Darned Socks

My sister in law gave me a lovely little vintage Weave it loom for Christmas and it inspired me to deal with my holey socks!
I posted about how I’ve been mending socks with little woven patches a day or so ago.
Today, after I went out to shovel the walks, my boot pulled off my sock, and I could see right through it! Oops!
So, I whipped out the Weave-it loom, and the round wooden thingie that goes inside socks for darning (boy, that thing is great!) I wove up a square and had it stitched over the hole, licketysplit.
You can see that the toe of the sock had undergone a similar mending a year or so back. The little woven squares are great. They felt themselves nicely into the sock. You don’t feel them when you are wearing them.
I lifted my foot to see if the other sock is intact…. nope….
worse than the first!
So, I thought…. hmm…. why not make a slightly larger patch. I remembered that I haven’t played with one of my other vintage looms in a long time, so I dug it out.
It’s a neat old plastic 4 inch square loom from Bucilla. It has a movable bar that allows you to weave rectangles. So, I wove up a little rectangle.
I was standing by one of my work tables, with my greyhound resting his head on my foot as I slept. So… I couldn’t resist using him as a background to photograph the patch and loom:
Which of course lead to me popping the socks onto his feet:

Greyhounds are like that. 5 minutes of galloping, 55 minutes of walking and 23 hours of snoozing. It’s a good life.

Help! I broke the tip off my wife’s BUCILLA crochet hook a # 3, and I’m trying to replace it. Can anybody get me out of the doghouse. A $10 reward!
Hi Doug
Just posted about your dilemma….

Good luck!
Someone just sent me a note that there is a Bucilla #3 hook up on eBay, so I have sent Doug a note telling him about it.
Hope he wins the auction!
