Hankering for Yarn

Mulling over new books….

I am working away on a new self published book of spoolknitting designs. I’ve been mulling for months about directions to go with this book.

I’ve  been feeling rather flumoxed because I have a mountain of spoolknitting designs -oh my! Well, the easiest way to deal with the heap of material is to break it up into several little books. And, it’s been somewhat baffling to decide WHICH book to go with first! BUT…..

I’ve been feeling really inspired about a specific spoolie shape and configuration that I wanted Jim to turn for me. He obliged and came up with a spoolie that I just love. (He’s working on a whole bunch more of them- YAY!)
I’ve been focusing on finger puppets a lot lately, and so I really wanted a spoolie that would be proportioned perfectly for making finger puppets.

Well, I was ecstatic with the prototype and painted and burned it, and with great gusto, started spooling finger puppets.

EEGADS and little fish! The first 2 finger puppets were just appalling! I spent 2 full days making really pathetic puppets!

I am NOT going to show pics of them as they are just a gagfest. BLECH!!!!!!
I thought……. What is happening? WHY are these so awful?

It was essential for me to throw away my preconceived ideas. I started from scratch, and am now REALLY REALLY happy with them!

AND….. so, the first book that I was working on has gotten pushed back, as the finger puppets are so engaging. I am working like mad on them, and photographing and editing and stitching and writing and generally busting my chops on them.

Soon… I am aiming to have the book of spoolknitted finger puppets done. Finger puppets are a wonderful way to tell stories, and I hope that they will inspire some great stories!

It’s like firewood keeping you warm twice: Once when you cut it, and once when you burn it.

Spoolknitted finger puppets bring joy over and over: When you make them, the act of spoolknitting them is pure delight, and when you tell stories with them, the delight unfolds again and again!

hugs all round
