Hankering for Yarn

Oh that wasn’t good-death of a yarn gadget

Oh oh… I had a sad thing happen in the studio today. A much loved vintage yarnie gadget met it’s demise.

It’s my brass Crazy Daisy loom.

I have had this little loomie

since I was a teenager,

which was a very long time ago!

I assumed, that, since it was

brass, that it was sturdy.

Alas, I was wrong….

Now, it was sturdy enough

to rattle along with me

for lo these many years,

but it wasn’t sturdy enough

to stand up to me abusing it with

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tight yarn today.

Oh, woe is me! Poor little Crazy Daisy!  One little wire squinched over, and that was the beginning of the end.

Now, if it had developed cellulite or baggy jowls or the yarnie gadget equivalent thereof, I would have known to be more gentle.

If Poor Little Crazy Daisy had just said: ‘Excuse me, but I am not the springie little loomie I once was- go lightly!”  I would have remembered that even metal gets fatigued.

But, I got inspired, and energetic, and dear old C. Daisy (I just can’t call this little fallen comrade ‘Crazy’ one more time…. sigh)  just plinked out her little wirey fingers, one after the other, like a thumped boxer letting go of molars.

I’ll miss you, C. Daisy! I tried to resuscitate you,  and so did Jim, but, alas, even his wizardry was not enough for you.

Farewell little loomie. I’ll miss you…..

Do they still make those? Give this one a nice burial and look for another one…;-)

I think I have heard of those. I think there is a Dasiy line of products.

    Noreen,

I believe the winder could be fixed, but you would most likely need to replace the spikes, and I think they were either welded, or silver soldered to the center knob. It’s been years since I saw one.

Just for kicks, I went looking for the things, and about the only place I could find one was ebay, that wonderful internet flea market. There are a few on there, but you could start with this one if you would like to get another right away. The other one I found was selling for $48.00 It seems the seller confused the year for the price. As these things sold for 10¢ when they were new. Now, that was a long time ago, but still…..

Thanks for everything you’ve shown us.

    All the best.
