A comment was made in response to my last posting:
“Why is it that we women worry about peace and the men make war?”
My response was to flinch.
Ouch.
I hear the pain and anger in this statement,
but I believe that we need
to rise above
our pain, our anger, our outrage.
Not all men are war makers,
not all women are peace makers.
We are all capable of creating wonders or atrocities.
We are all in this together.

I think it’s important to look at these kinds of beliefs in a new light….
when we make statements that diminish other people,
it is easy to dismiss them,
and to commit acts of violence against them.
Polarized thinking is very dangerous.
So, we need to talk about our beliefs……….
we need to come to the window….

First of all:
If there was an Olympic medal for worrying,
I think that
my daughter and son would nominate me for it.

I have spent my life being a champion
worrier, fusser and fretter.

So, when I say that worrying DOES NOT HELP anything,
believe me, I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE!
Grinning sheepishly.

Worry does NOT create peace.
Worry is a way of staying in fear mode.
Worry is toxic
and creates more negative energy,
so I think we need to look carefully
at our worry response.

I am constantly having to face fear.
And, I have learned that,
when I get into
panic mode, fretting behaviour and fear in general,
that I simply
HAVE to
STOP
take a deep breath,
firmly turn my face away from fear
and
back into constructive thought patterns and practices.

Meditation, prayer and contemplation
are essential for me in doing this.

So, I am NOT worrying about peace.
I am thinking about it,
dreaming about it,
longing for it,
focusing on it,
wondering how I can make more of it,
celebrating the peace that I am blessed to experience.
I am looking at
how I can create
more metaphors for peace,
and how I can be an instrument of peace,
and help create more JOY and delight,
and more peace.

Secondly,
I passionately believe
that we need to let go of beliefs
that women are inherently more peaceful than men.
That is a belief that has not worked for us in the past,
and it hurts people
to believe it now.

I believe
that women and men
must work together
and are perfectly capable of doing so.
We need to engage in
“AND”
thinking,
as
‘either/or’
thinking
has NOT
moved humanity forward.

We are spellbound at the edge,
and we need to emerge
from the constrictions and constraints
of old thought forms
that have crippled us in the past.

Now, it is time to forgive
and to learn tolerance.
Yes, we need to grieve,
but let’s make beauty
rise out of the ashes,
not more pain!

The only way
that we can spread our wings
and learn to fly
is if we can
put up with our own crap,
and with the stupidity of other people,
and forgive it all -
shrug it off,
laugh AND CRY at our blunders
and say:
‘How do we fix this mess?’,
and then, without worrying about it,
start seeing the world in whole new ways.

Recently, my dear friend, Bonnie, died.
At her funeral,
her 16 year old daughter spoke about
how her Mom (Bonnie)
had taught her to believe in one important phrase:
‘I CAN DO IT!’

That is the MOST important thing
any of us can come to believe.

Come to the window,
and know that:
WE CAN DO IT!
With imagination, inspiration,
creativity, flexibility and tolerance………

With love and respect,
Noreen
