Hankering for Yarn

pot-holder looms

Did you ever make nylon ‘pot holders’ on a small square loom when you were a child?  With the gacky nylon loops that came in either day-glo or ‘nude pantyhose’ color?  That made the little pot holders that melted if you tried to actually use them?

Useless right?

There are some wonderful things being done these days with pot holder looms.  Here’s a link for a site filled with all sorts of cool, non-icky-nylon-loop projects.   It’s really easy to use yarn, or even strips of torn fabric to make things like teddy bears, purses or even full size shawls.  Here’s a link to a free pattern for a small pouch made using a pot holder loom.

This is a photo of a fully warped loom, just before the fabric is taken off to have the edges finished.

So why don’t you give an old childhood favorite a try?

I remember those looms, I never knew what to do with the warped square once I\’d made it. :)
