Hankering for Yarn

Puppy fuzz

A friend sent me a fun link this morning….

Martha Stewart blogged about puppy fuzz being spun into chiengora.

Her ChowChow, Paw Paw, got a haircut. She asked what she should use Paw Paw’s fuzz for…..

Well…. I have been spinning our dog’s fuzzies up for years.

I’ve knitted, crocheted, spool knitted and woven all kinds of teddy bears with dog yarn (aka: chiengora), as well as making little fluffy puppies.

And, I’ve crocheted lots of hats with our dear old late Newfoundland’s fuzz, too….

The other day, he was wearing his ‘Gnome Dome Eco hat’

And a guy said to him:

‘Hey, Dude! Whatcha wearing on your head? ‘

Angus responded: ‘My dog.’

Which left the guy speechless.

Even though our dear old Newfoundland-Chow cross pupster crossed the rainbow bridge last year, he still warms our hearts, and our heads, bless him.

and what a beautiful dog he was!

    Thank you so much, Wendy.
He really was a gorgeous boy. When we adopted him from the SPCA, he was 5 or 6 weeks old. He was an adorable little ball of beans. He looked like a rollypolly teddybear.

His fur/fuzz was far more luxuriant and prolific than a cashmere goat we once had! I actually spun enough of it to make our son a blanket! As well as all kinds of hats and teddy bears and little dogs.

The staff at the shelter told us that because he was 1/2 Newfie and 1/2 Chow, that he would probably live 6 – 8 years, as large dogs often don’t live as long as small ones. He was 14 when he passed away last year (just at this time, actually….).

He was a gracious, noble, and beautiful gentleman- a true prince among dogs, and we still miss him dreadfully. We haven’t had the heart to scatter his ashes yet, but will take his ashes to some of his favorite places, sometime this spring and summer….. oh, how we miss him!
