Small looms I love- Plastic looms 1

I am addicted to small loom weaving. I am going to be sharing a few of my favorite small looms with you, and it seemed logical to start with plastic looms.
Small looms are wonderfully affordable -the plastic potholder loom is downright cheap and cheerful!

But, get a good one that doesn’t flex or flop in your hands – that’ll make you crazy.

Plastic looms are delightfully portable, (they’re light and  they fit in a small tote, market bag or backpack)

And they’re safe when you’re travelling.

SAFE?!?!

Yep.

Safe.

I never go anywhere without a bag full of fiber arts stuff.  I always have a small loom in my travelling bag, and now, I only carry plastic looms when I’m on the go.

Last year, I was once weaving with a metal loom as we toodled down the road. My husband is one of the world’s BEST drivers, but, even he couldn’t avoid a huge  and unexpected  big old hole in the road.

The loom flew up and hit me in the face.  (ow, yikes, ow)

I decided after that, that I would only weave with plastic looms when I am a passenger in a car or plane!

Try explaining to the doc why there is a line  of perforations on your face – oh I did a face plant on my loom…. yah sure, lady….. get out the white coats for this one, she’s a wild one….

Best of all, small looms offer unlimited creative potential!

I’ve been designing for them for years, and have come up with all kinds of wonderful dolls, toys, bags and other fashion accessories.  Mmmmmmmm….. I love my small looms……..

Just because it’s small doesn’t mean you can’t do fabulous weaving with it!

People hold up their noses in dismay and disgust when I say that plastic looms can be fine little looms!

Take your fingers off your nose! Yes! you! 

Plastic is ubiquitous, so why not make something wonderful with it?

I got these plastic looms from Dick Blick for  about $2!

They’re good and sturdy and won’t wibblewobble on you when you are  weaving.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about potholder looms is that you are supposed to weave with those horrible loop thingies! Blech! ugh! pitooey phlbthhhhhhh!!!!!

No! NO! NO!

Yarn! Yarn is  good! Yarn is best! Yarn is BLISS!
