March was designated as Crochet Month. And, since March is rapidly winding up (although, as far as I am concerned, EVERY month is crochet month!), I wanted to make sure I posted a  couple of more things about crochet before the end of the month.
Who better to write crochet notes about than a dear friend of mine – Gwen Blakley Kinsler.

Why? Because Gwen is the Queen of Crochet – she started the Crochet Guild of America,
which is pretty darned royal in my books!

Schmancy crochet hook envy- No more-Upcycle

Do you lust after glorious, gorgeous, one of a kind crochet hooks?
But, perhaps can’t fit one into your budget right now?
Well….. here’s an option: Upcycle!
eh?
Take something that may not have been originally destined to become a handle for a crochet hook, but , be an Einstein,  (seeing the world in new ways is how he defined creativity), and use something in a new way!
Last Christmas, my sister-in-law gave me this wonderful bit of tourist treasure from their favorite second hand store.

March Is Crochet Month

For months now, I have had a cap sitting in the studio, whining at me to finish it.
I have carried it around in bags, moved it from table to desk and back, taken it out, put it back, taken it out again, sighed, and put it back …. and  just haven’t been able to finish it.
Why, why why, I snivel? It’s a simple little cap!
Alright.
Yesterday, I read a note about March being crochet month. I even joined a Ravelry group in celebration of Crochet month!

Recycling And Upcycling Yarn

I am making a cap for a friend. He wants it in synthetic yarn, and it has to be quite thin yarn, so I went mooching through my stash looking for the perfect yarn.
I had some discontinued Caron Shadows that I had used in another project that was rejected, so I figured I would be eco friendly and recycle and upcycle the yarn.
By splitting it, I was able to divide out the color shifting sections and use them in the design of the cap.
