A tiny bog coat for Albert Einstein? Say What?
The other day,
on one of my fave lists,
someone posted a link
to Bog Coats.
Bog Coats are an
ancient style of
woven coat that
are rather like
a kimono.
They are made from a
rectangular or square
woven piece of fabric
and are simple to make
but offer endless opportunities for embellishment and exploration.
Because I have been playing with tiny vintage Magic Looms that a friend sent to me, I immediately thought-
Woohoo! I could use the Magic Loom to make a tiny bog coat that would work as a Christmas ornament…….
I knew that I wouldn’t be
able to cut into the fabric
made on the …read more

It’s time for another pattern for the Fanciful Flat Fiber Friend Dolls. This time, it’s crocheted pants.
Flora is modelling the
crocheted yoga pants
with a ribbon drawstring.
These pants were crocheted
with Aunt Lydia’s Baby Denim in Mint
and a 5 mm hook, but any
sportweight yarn would work.
Lily Sugar’n Cream would be
perfect.
The pants are crocheted in
2 pieces and then they are
sewn together. Easy peasy!
Flora’s Yoga Crocheted Yoga Pants: Make 2 rectangles:
Ch 10.
Row 1: Skip the first ch, 1 sc into each of the remaining 9 sc. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 2-13: 9 sc. Ch 1 and turn.
Cut yarn, leaving a 12 inch/30 cm for …read more
Tatting-Dragon head Shuttle and Doll Dress

This has been a weekend full of fun tatting projects – from dragons to doll clothes:
Here be dragons! The other day, a member of the Tatta Tat Tatting group on Ravelry began a conversation about tatting dragons.
One thing lead to another, and before long,
I had invited the group members
to participate in a challenge, to make dragons.
The challenge is to make a
dragon in any medium
that includes tatting.
The first thing I always
do when working on
a new piece, is to get out
my sketchbook.
As I was sketching,
the thought popped up…
Could I make a dragon shaped
tatting shuttle?
Well, it took a heap of drawings and sketches, …read more
A tatted lace dress for Fanciful Flat Doll

It’s been awhile since I posted about the Fanciful Flat Fiber Friend dolls, because I have been working my chops off on potholder loom books and knitting patterns.
BUT… I haven’t been totally neglecting Flora the Flat Doll…. I’ve been tatting her a lace dress.
I started by working a simple edging with 2 shuttles:
Then, I joined the ends of the edging, and started working in the round:
I continued working in the round for the skirt:
I let it sit for awhile, as I was undecided about how to do the bodice. I have carried on with the simple rounds going up to …read more
How to make shoes for Flat Dolls

A couple of months ago, I bought a used leather coat at the second hand store. My plan was to upcycle it into a new bag.
Well, I haven’t gotten around to making the bag yet,
but I did snip a little flap off the coat
and have used it to make
the perfect accessory
for the Fanciful Flat Fiber Friends Dolls: Shoes.
Doesn’t every doll need the perfect pair of shoes?
Well, Flora did, so I got busy
with my sketch book and graph paper.
I snipped out a half a dozen different versions
of shoes for Flora and her friends.
When I was happy with the pattern, I cut …read more
Crocheted Sundress for Fanciful Flat Dolls

Filed under crochet, doll and dolls and dollmaking
Flora, my Fanciful Flat Fiber Friend Doll announced that it was time to post the pattern for one of her new dresses.
Since it’s a crocheted sundress,
she chose to model it
while she was watering
one of the plants in the studio.
She asked for a
matching sunhat,
so I designed that, too.
I will post the pattern
for the sunhat
tomorrow.
The sundress is super simple to make.
You need to know how to work ch, sc, hdc and dc.
You will need one ball of Patons Canadiana (1oo% acrylic), approx 158 m/173 yds; 85 gm/3 0z in Crazy Shades.
I crocheted the dress with a ‘G’ (4.5 mm) crochet hook which …read more
