I was so delighted to find a surprise package in  the mailbox today!  My wonderful, much beloved sisters-in-law have a knack of finding me vintage looms and other goodies.

Well… they get a gold star, once again!

I wasn’t expecting anything from them, but wheeeeeeee!

Look what they found for me…. a little package of Magic Looms! I love these little looms, and have a couple of others. But, I am very happy to give these ones a home.

One thing that makes me go, ‘duh’, though, is that the photo on the box is absolutely, and clearly a picture of crocheted granny squares.  Um, did the manufacturer think that we wouldn’t notice? Perhaps that’s why they didn’t give themselves credit~! LOL!  Just: Made in Hong Kong.

Mmmm… I have an idea of something I would like to try with these little looms….  right now, I am in the middle of painting,  and then I have to get some updates done on my website, and after that, I have a book to write…. oh, yes…. mustn’t forget that…..

LOL!

It’s the Vesterheim Museum Cradle Loom.

 I’ve received letters from people, saying that they couldn’t find the loom on the Vesterheim site. So, I wrote to the Vesterheim folks and asked if the loom had been discontinued.

Good news! Here’s the response:

No, it has not discontinued.  We were temporarily out and financially we
could not order for some time.  We do have it back in and please forward the
message.  Thank you.

I am passionate about small loom weaving.

I have a collection of vintage looms that I dearly love, including Lily Speed oWeave looms and Magic square looms.

Technically, they are not ~weaving~ looms. They are ‘hold your yarn in nifty patterns and go into an altered state of consciousness and tie rhythmically a sequence of interlocking knots’ looms. But, that’s a bit of a mouthful.

Anyhow, sadly, they are not made anymore.

You can still find them in second hand stores and at yard sales – IF you are lucky.

If not, then you pay through the nose to someone on eBay who DID find them.

Well… I am happy as a clam,

because I’ve found the Butterfly looms.

They are a really nicely made collection of flat board looms that replace the vintage Magic Square and Lily Speed o Weave looms.

They’re sturdy beautifully made and really a pleasure to work on.

And they have a lovely little laser cut butterfly, too…. )

I particularly like using the motifs from these looms in combination with crochet.

I’ll post more about them soon. (and more pics, too….)
