Tatting Butterfly earrings – 1

Tatted butterflies make wonderful earrings.
I fell in love with Kreinik’s Metallic 1/8″ ribbon thread and wanted to tat some butterflies with it:

There’s 5 meters on the spool, but I didn’t know if that would be enough to tat 2 butterflies.
So, I decided to do an experiment.
I wound 5 m of Rainbow Hemp Beading Twine from Jolly store onto my tatting shuttle and tatted these Rainbow Butterflies:

Poifeck!
You can get a pair of earrings with less than 5 m!
So, I went ahead and wrapped my shuttle with the spool of
Kreinik Metallics #209C 1/8″ Ribbon yarn
and it tatted up BEAUTIFULLY!

I am delighted with them.
I tatted them while blissing out to the music in the bistro where my husband’s jazz trio was playing.
People kept coming up to me to ask what I was doing and to admire the thread.
Don’t tat in public if you are shy!
People are intrigued by it and want to know what on earth you are doing.
I am still waiting for the little Flip video camera to arrive (it’s almost TWO months now that I have been waiting for it!).
When it gets here, I’ll do a video tutorial on how to tat these incredibly easy, but oh so gorgeous, earrings.
And, perhaps, I should make a pair to give away in a series of ‘Yay, I’ve been writing Hankering for Yarn for more than 2 years now’ celebratory give aways next week….
Whaddya think?

“Don’t tat in public if you are shy!”
LOL. I guess so. Of course I get asked all kinds of weird questions by people who don’t know me in stores, mostly where did I get my reusable shopping bags. And “what’s that?” — if I have my SIGG water bottle with me. : )
And, don’t do the happy dance in public, either! ROTFLOL!
I love it – Don’t tat in public if you are shy! I can’t wait to see the video on how to tat these cute earrings. I’ll just be sure not to do it in public
Thanks so much, Eileen!
We’re just wrestling with some wonky computer stuff, then we’re going to build a jig to hold the camera…. then….. I’ll start shooting ‘real’ videos.
So far, it’s been: shoot…..oh phoo…. delete…… shoot….. oops….. delete… etc….
then I finally got a decent one and it was upside down. erg.
Hence the need for a jig…..
LOL!

I think it would be terrific if you could put up some videos of tatting. I’ve been trying to learn, and the only video on line I found was very hard to see. (To small) Your earrings are terrific.
Oooh aren’t they sweet? I just love that you aren’t shy to tat in public. I’ve never tried tatting, yet, but don’t mind knitting, when I have the mood on, in public.
Thanks, Heather! I think that it is good to do our fiber arts in public, as it inspires other people to pick up their needles, hooks and shuttles and find fibrebliss, too!

Hi Rayann

We are in the middle of ‘computer stuff’ (erk) and (eek) right now, but I PROMISE! I am going to be getting tatting videos up ASAP
