Hi Lynn
Thank you so much!
I love stories and metaphor, so, I agree.... having old bits and pieces around that have family connections. I think that that is also why I love second hand stores so much.... it feels like you are retrieving bits of history.

Hi Noreen,
Thank you for the link to your instructions. Your hand made shuttles are very nice, and I think being made from a ruler that has a story makes them even better!

Hi Lynn
Thank you so much for this info!
I have used the pattern to make one from an old ruler, but someone who doesn't want to do that will appreciate knowing that they can find them at Weaving Works!
Here's the link to the one I made:

Hi Caroline
I remembered that I had part of an old ruler from my father-in-law's workshop stash, so I made one of the shuttles with it.... did that ever work great!
I posted about it here:

Hope your plastic bottle one works well, too!

I just saw this type of shuttle at the Weaving Works, in Seattle this afternoon (or some that were very similar). Their website is http://www.weavingworks.com/weaving.html . They don't really have pictures of their inventory online, but I bet if you called and asked, they would be able to find them (in shelves by front windown by their other weaving / spinning tools) for you. I also think I have seen them somewhere online too.

Great idea! One can never have too many weaving needles or shuttles. I have a couple of the really pointy metal ones, but I don't think they would work too well with wool or soft cotton. They are too pointy and the tips are very narrow. Your netting shuttle is a perfect shape! I'm off to upcycle a plastic bottle.

You are so right, netting shuttles- the style with one pointy end- are perfect for inkle weaving. You were lucky to find yours so quickly.
