Hankering for Yarn

Woven ‘knitting’ bag’

My daughter asked for a woven bag for Christmas. She described it quite carefully.

I mulled over her request and got the Lily Speed o weave out and warped up.

Well, in my studio, the cats believe that I couldn’t possibly warp a loom without their assistance:

Which makes the small dog crazy:

He just doesn’t understand that he CANNOT herd the cats!

Anyhow, I was able to restore peace between the cat and dog, and get the shuttle flying:

My son in  law designs and makes these wonderful shuttles and I love them! He made me one for Christmas -yay!

I cut the handles out, drilled the holes, painted them, varnished them and sewed them to the bag.

I don’t think that the finished bag looks much like what my daughter originally had in mind, but I hope she enjoys it anyhow. I was made with tons of love!

Mymom had a homemade loom that made placemats. It looked just like the one you are using. Can you tell me where to get them? We have looked everywhere. The ones she had came up missing after a big move. It would make her day if I could find some for her! thanks

    Hello Brenda
The loom that I am using is a vintage Lily Speed o Weave loom. They are no longer being made, which is too bad as they are a real pleasure to work with.

My sister in law and I have found all of mine in second hand stores or at yard sales. They often don’t have instructions with them ,which is why I posted a tutorial on how to work with them.

The urls for the Lily Speed-o-weave loom tutorial are:

They also are often missing their shuttle. My son in law makes gorgeous brass and copper ones that are far nicer than the new ones.

The looms often show up on eBay, too.

Good luck – I hope you’ll soon find one for her!

    Happy New Year!
