Beef Gone Bad

E. coli contamination alert:

20 tons of tainted beef may still be in freezers in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Though the beef in question is no longer in stores (thus preventing a more effective recall), there’s a good chance it’s still in people’s homes ready to be grilled this holiday weekend. So far, nine people have become ill. But don’t turn to salads just yet: a major shipment of spinach was found to be contaminated with salmonella. Some of the greens made it to store shelves before authorities discovered the contamination issue, so to find out if you’re harboring bacterial fugitives in your fridge, check the recall tracking codes.

Well, I don’t worry about those things, because I know I can trust my government. They inspect everything and have never let us down.

    Janis,

    You’re kidding – I hope.

Ah, the benefits of being a vegetarian.

Sometimes I feel as if I’m at risk for turning a simple trip to the grocery store into an all-out suicide mission. :( Maybe I should start my own veggie garden so I can protect myself from other contaminated foods.
