Did you know that women are…
- three times more likely than men to suffer from some types of back pain
- more susceptible to a whiplash injury
- prone to low back pain
And that bra straps, high heels, and hormonal swings add to the chances of women suffering from an aching back.
Christine Lasich MD knows all this and more. Having suffered from chronic low back pain herself and acutely aware of the lack of gender-specific information on preventing and dealing with back pain, Christine has written the highly informative and entertaining High Heels to Hormones: A Woman’s Guide to Spinal Care.
Featuring short easy to read chapters illustrated with pencil stick cartoons, High Heels to Hormones is an effective self help guide for woman. The contents include information on how everything from bras, hormones, and high heeled shoes to convenience foods, smoking, exercise, high-achieving, and multitasking lifestyles will affect your back.
And while it is all evidence based information, there is a distinct lack of med-speak in this book. Instead, the tone is fun and light. For example, here’s Christine’s take on the importance of good posture: “Did I threaten your sense of decency by telling you to stick your chest out with the shoulders back? Don’t be shy, because shyness creates an unhealthy, slouched posture.”
Women of all shapes, sizes, and ages will benefit from the advice that Dr Lasich dispenses. It could easily be the best resource yet to help women say goodbye to sore necks and aching backs and instead be able to enjoy strong, healthy spines.
High Heels to Hormones has the Healthbolt Seal of Approval and therefore, we are happy to be able to offer a copy to one lucky reader.

You mean leave a comment by “July” 25th, right?
It was balancing my hormones (okay, fishoil gets some credit, too) that saved me from 20 years of back pain. Really. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s what did it.
I could sure use a book like this RIGHT NOW!?!? (LOL)…sorry, those were my hormones talking! H-E-L-P!!!
I need to read this book
That’s really cool! I’ve been thinking of writing a post sometime about the problems of wearing high heels. I wonder if she would send me a copy to review?
Hey Sandy, thanks for picking up on the typo — definitely July 25th …. must have been the hormones that messed that up!!!!
New bra, sore back??!!
Sounds like an interesting book!
I seriously love tomatoes, but they reek havoc with my IBS…
luv to win this book….
God Bless Our Troops
what are these (fingerquote) high heels (unFQ) of which you speak?
xo xo,
MBT wearing MizFit
This sounds like a truely interesting book!
I never attributed hormones to back pain, so I’d love to see what else I’ve never thought of.
I have more neck issues than back issues, but spine care is definitely a huge deal.
Having a sore hand or foot, you can kind of move along and work around, but when your back or neck hurts–yow. I love (not really) that sort of robotic quality I develop when my neck is having problems: can’t turn my head to look at you, so here, let me carefully turn my entire body so as not to jar anything!
I think exercise helps keep things working smoothly…that’s if I don’t move wrong and throw things out of whack. A delicate balance, clearly.
I can’t wear high heels for too long, my feet and shin begin to ache terribly, and I don’t understand how women can wear them to work and every where else and make it seem effortless!
@ A’Llyn: I agree with you.. a neck ache is just terrible! I find that when I have localised pain in a part of my body, a hot water bottle (the rubber ones) always help!
I suffer from occasional back pain due to a sports injury! Love to win!
Would love to win this to give my mom! Thanks!
