pardon the grammer errors if there will be any, but i feel like typing away!!!! this confirms what i have believed for a long time. Big long parades when an officer or firefighter dies in the line of duty?? what about the school teacher, does he/she have a bullet proof vest, carry a gun and mace, have 20 other teachers fully armed and ready to use excessive force? does the 7-11 clerk have tear gas , the law on his side no matter what foolish decision he makes when shooting someone else. is anyone other than these guys mothers neiv’e enuff to think they joined the force or fire dept. to protect and serve anyone else but them selfs.. how about that swat officer in L.A. recently who was shot and killed? on the news for 2 weeks. parades, candles, t-shirts, give me a break…… will be nice when the media won’t be so politically correct and maybe point out the other fact besides he was the first swat officer killed in the 40 some years of the lL.A. swat. that being on that swat team has to be the safest place in the world when wearing that uniform!!!! 1st one killed in 40+ years!! he’s the forth one in the house, fully armored, law on his side a dozen team members with him ,adrenaline pumping to be able to shoot anything thats moves. and a suspect already delirious from flash grenades and tear gas. to tears from me for the family. he had the safest job in the world.
and whats with the fire dept, who i happen to have alittle respect for , but not much, waxing the truck for 2 weeks, playing pranks and then maybe a car accident to go to. all year long. then once every two years they have to break a real sweat and fight some real big fires. and all the while looking out for number one. these guys are trained to save there ass first , then if you can save someone else do it. no hats off from me to this crowd either.
OH my god. What is wrong with this person. Did they get out of bed on the wrong side or what. NO matter what job you are in your are trained to watch out for your self an to protect your self. There is no job out there that does not tell you to protect your self above all. Fire fieghters should be honored a long with Cops, lineman, truck drivers, construction works, loggers, commerical fisherpeople and famers . These people risk their life everyday no matter the weather and no matter the situation. People need to start relealizing that these jobs are dangerous and they all need to be honored and given the most respect.
i am a volunteer firefighter… VOLUNTEER, i would say 80% of firefighters are volunteer, and we do the same things paid guys do. A firefighter died a few weeks before easter at a fire i was at. 30 years old with little kids, doing something b/c he loved it. on the paid firefighters side, they see a fire at least once or twice a week in big cities. talk all the smack you want, but these guys are here to protect you, you should respect them a little bit.
This guy at the top is just upset he never made it in a Police or Fire Department.
What about Navy Aircraft Carrier flight deck workers? Nearly every deployment results in at least one fatality. I know, safety has gotten dramatically better in the last ten years, but…

Many a times that police officer lost his life saving an innocent persons life, that is why.

There’s a lot of law enforcement officers, MANY MANY that are considered Law Enforcement, but aren’t on the streets arriving and responding to calls.
Imagine being part of a department, knowing at least one or two will surely die on the job that year.
Oh, and that’s not too mention all the ones who are shot and survive, all the ones who are paralyzed, etc.

Every public job proffesion should be well respected. from the police officer down to the casher at a gas station. As a former law enforcment officer I am awear of the type of people in this world there are and the many dangers. Weather its the drunk driver I had just arrested or the crazy bi-polar scitsofrenic person ready to go on a killing rampage or ready to kill them self. Oh yea there are people out there like that. So the teacher to me has a lot of respect as well as everyone else that makes a diffrence in there community.
the deadliest job in the u.s statistically is actually US president,,8 presidents have died in office and theres only been 42 different presidents thats 19% death rate (almost 1in 5),, so far there have been 17 attempts at presidents lives,,,if anyone can find me a job that 1 in 5 people are killed on let me know,,,pondo32@yahoo.com

I agree that there other jobs out there that have higher fatality rates than firefighting or law enforcement. We should do more to pay tribute to teachers, fishermen, line men, etc. But that doesn’t mean that firefighting or law enforcement should be treated differently. Until you’ve been called out on at 2:00 a.m for a bar fight with injuries or a house fire, you’ll never know what it’s like to be in the public safety field. I have great respect for teachers, coal miners, and others who work hard to make a living, sometimes in dangerous situtions. Also firefighters, police and EMTs are treat with special regard because they are going into harms way to directly help other. Added that we have close bonds do to the emotional stress of seeing death and pain on a constant bases.

Plus we’re trained to get out of dangerous situtions and leave victims behind because there’s usually an extreme small chance the victim won’t make it, a high chance that the rescuer with die if they don’t leave the sitution soon. I known if I won’t survive because a room about to flashover, unfortunitly I’m going to leave the building as soon as possible with my crew, even if that means leave a victim. If I couldn’t survive with full gear on, I know the victim will end up dead either way. Whats better one unlucky civilian dead. Or a one civilian and two firefighters dead?
If a police officer has the most dangerus job what about a marine get shot at all the time in the time of war. I think that The NAVAL FLIGHT DECK is the most dangerous job. Need eyes in the back of your head. All it takes is 1 error and alot of people die.
you people make me lagh the true deadliest job in America is a TOWERHAND OR TOWER TECH we are the ones that make so much of your life simpler just think what would you do with out your cell phones our wireless internet not to menchen how about your radios or television just look at the OSHA reports they do a studie every year not every three like the labor board everyone needs to quit grouping us in with the iron workers we are a different breed of people and work at hieghts that most would not even consider trying not to menchon we work in just as bad or some times worse weather than those damn fishermen everybody makes a big deal out of I have been on jobs that we had to sleep on top of the tower in make shift tents only coming down to use the toilet we have our own style and are made of a different type of person with wich many have attempted and not made the cut you can call us what you want crazy,stupidor just straight out needing mental help but the fact of the matter is with out us normal everyday life would be a lot tuffer without me and my brothers makeing all of these common day items possible so give a little thans and respect where it is do
I’am currently a fireman/ paramedic and i know that everytime our tone out goes on i look up to the good lord and say a little prayer and i’m not all that religiuose but i know that god and my crew are the only ones on my side
i agree with the tower worker he does have a very dangerious job just like me i work on powerlines and all it takes its 1 lil mess up and zap u get fried but how really cares right for exp. when all the major storms hits who do they call the powerline workers and ther tower workers to get everyone up and running again but heres the funny thing when everyone is without everyone is so nice and respectful to us hard working men and women but once ur service is restored everyone changes and becomes assholes treatin us workers like shit yes im pointing the finger at all u suit wearing people thanks and have a nice day and just a little hit before i go show respect to the men and women workin and SLOW THE HELL DOWN THROUGH A WORK ZONE
Let me clarify; I appreciate the job you do, but go back and read what you typed and I hope you understand how you sound to other people, as if you’re demanding respect and acting as if you’re better than anyone else who has a dangerous job. That’s a little ironic isn’t it?
