“Sit up straight!”

How many times have you heard it? Well, get this: it’s bad for your back. Researchers at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen Scotland found that of three sitting positions, slouched, straight up and slightly reclined (135 degrees), sitting with your back straight puts the most stress on the disks in your spine.

Study leader, Dr. Waseem Bashir, University of Alberta Hospital, Canada, said “Sitting in a sound anatomic position is essential, since the strain put on the spine and its associated ligaments over time can lead to pain, deformity and chronic illness.”

I’ve got to call put in a call to my grandmother…

So… ok sitting straight is bad for my back… What position is the correct one? Slouched or slithglt reclined?

  2. Wade says:

According to the article, slightly reclined is best, followed by slouched with straight up and down coming in last.
