Flip-Flops Can Turn Deadly

Any flip flop wearers out there?

If so, here’s a study you  might want to consider.

454545_summer_footwearTwo reporters living in New York City recently walked around the city for four days wearing flip-flops. They took numerous train trips, walked through Prospect Park, headed out to the bars in West Village, took in a baseball game at Coney Island, waded through the public restrooms at the Coney Island subway station, and even rode the Cyclone, twice.

They then turned the flip-flops over to a microbiology lab at EMSL Analytical for testing.

The results -  the flip-flops had collected approximately 18,100 bacteria of the five most prevalent varieties, including the deadly Staphylococcus aureus.

Now flopping around in Flip Flops might stop your feet from touching the ground but they don’t stop the grim from the ground touching your feet.  So it’s pretty certain that what ever gets onto the flip flops has a pretty good chance of also getting onto your feet. Just imagine what could happen if you had a cut on your foot. Bacteria such as the deadly Staphylococcus aureus could enter the cut, allowing the bacteria to enter your bloodstream, which, if untreated, could kill you.

Not a pretty picture.

So what’s a flip-flop lover to do? Well, this one is going to start by throwing the flip flops away and wearing shoes (and socks) the next time she visit’s the big city.

Yeah, I know that sounds a little extreme but  I’d rather cover up than get covered in germs.

What about you?

Going to toss the flip-flops?

If not, here’s a few flip-flop cleaning tips for you.
