Healthbolt

Healthbolt Giveaway: Win a DVD of the Food Matters Documentary.

Have you heard of the Food Matters documentary?

It’s been called the ‘food equivalent’ of The Inconvenient Truth.

This independently funded film looks at the trillion dollar worldwide ’sickness industry’ and ask why ‘despite the billions of dollars of funding and research into new so-called cures we continue to suffer from a raft of chronic ills and every day maladies.’

Food Matters wants us to think about what we are putting into our bodies and why. Interviews with well known leaders in nutrition and natural healing address the idea that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of nutrition – foods, supplements and detoxification – should be considered in the treatment of chronic illnesses.

So far, I’ve only had the chance to watch this trailer of Food Matters.

But I’m planning on watching this controversal and hard hitting documentary this weekend – (if I can find some time between the end of the Democratic National Convention and the beginning of the Republican National Convention – what can I say, I’m a bit of a political junkie!) – and posting a review of it on Monday.

Meanwhile, I wanted to let you know that Healthbolt has five copies of the Food Matters DVD to giveaway so you can see for yourself why food matters…

  1. It’s so true that diet can help a person recover faster. Many people do not realise it!
I’d really like to watch this DVD soon.

I’d like to see it, but from what I’ve seen of the youtube video I agree very strongly with some of what they are saying, but disagree with some of it too.

Yes, people need to eat better and fast food, processed food in general, is killing us.

But I’m a scientist – and their criticism’s of all pesticides and genetically modified foods doesn’t make any sense. Sure, some pesticides are not the best things in the world to have in our food, soil and ground water. On the other hand there’s over 6 billion people on this planet that have to be fed. If we stopped using pesticides and herbicides we would be struggling to produce enough food to feed everyone. I’m guessing the people who are criticizing the use of them are not farmers or very knowledgeable about food production.

Same with genetically modified foods – for one, they reduce the need for pesticides and are more environmentally friendly. There’s a lot of people to feed – we need to continue to find ways to do it more efficiently. A lot of what is being worked on is to modify foods so that they can be grown in drought conditions, poorer soil, etc. – which will especially help people in the developing world who now struggle with growing enough to stay alive.

And regarding genetically modified foods the one guy said “we don’t know anything about”. Maybe he doesn’t know anything about it – but it is well understood. Very well understood. The process for getting genetically modified foods approved is more rigorous than plants produced by conventional breeding. It is a very precise process in which genes that have been studied and understood for years are being used in new ways to – again, reduce the need for pesticides, etc.

And sure – eating right will decrease the incidence of some disease – but its not some magic bullet that will eliminate all disease as the guy suggests at the end of the video. Before people ate processed foods – people still got sick – and their life expectancies were much lower than they are today. Its not a choice that you don’t have to be sick – its a choice that you can make to reduce your chances of being sick.

While scientists at pharmaceutical companies are sincere about what they are doing – I agree that there is a fundamental conflict of interest between the pharma companies and people. We just want to be healthy, they want to make a profit. If doctors really got on to people about eating right and exercising, instead of just prescribing something and not educating people it would help a lot too.

Ok, I’ve said enough – I’m curious about the dvd – I just hope it doesn’t have too much misleading information in it.

    I’m interested; count me in!

  16. Mubina says:

I really want to see this. It’s kind of sickening thinking about all the stuff that goes in our bodies, yet we hardly do anything to prevent that. There are so many more diseases than there were hundreds of years ago.
