Healthbolt

Healthbolt Giveaways: Win One of Three Copies of Sugarettes by Dr Scott Olson.

Sugar.

It’s everywhere.

In fact, it’s almost impossible to avoid and according to Dr Scott Olson, in his book Sugarettes, it’s as addictive as cigarettes.

I’ve just finished reading Sugarettes and I got to say, it was a real eye opener. Who knew that sugar was so prevalent in society today? Seems that everything we eat and drink has sugar in it and the more processed the food, the more the sugar content.

In Sugarettes, Scott Olson looks at how sugar affects the body and why we should look at it as an addiction and a leading cause of not only obesity but also other medical illnesses of our times.

This is a must read for anyone interested in improving their diet and their health.

Thanks Kristen for pointing out that the email addresses were in the comment form. All this time and I’ve only just discovered that now — must be a slow learner :)

I’ve written a long expose on sugar. This book will fascinate me!

  6. Kyenta Martins says:

I’ve long known that I’m addicted to sugar (through trial and error) and have been working on cutting it down. I would love to read this book and learn more about this tasty but rather evil substance! :-)

  7. I’m a sugar addict! I need this book!

  8. Scott says:

Remember back in the day when they actually made candy cigarettes? They had only about 5 sticks per pack and they had parody like names on the outside. And it was actually cool to pretend to smoke them back then. Bubblegum cigars and “Big League” chew that used to come with a baseball card. I think they still make big league chew. Those were the days…

  9. E Smith says:

I’d love a copy. This is a subject I’ve already read about to a degree but if this book can help break the addiction, then sign me up. I’ve never been addicted to alcohol or drugs but I’m definitely addicted to sugar and it’s Everywhere.

  10. Lula says:

I’m trying to cut down on sugar and would like to win the book to educate myself and my family.

  11. asithi says:

Simple carbs, sugar, and salt are the three ways the food industry is using to making us unhealthy and fat. I would love to read more about sugar to stir up some discussion about it on my blog.

  12. Mubina says:

I hate how almost everything we eat has something “bad” in it. I want to give up eating the way most Americans do, but it is so difficult to do.

  13. Kelly says:

I need help giving up sugar!!

  14. Crimson says:

I would like to have this book to better help me to avoid other foods that act like sugar. I eat a low sugar diet. But I’m very interested in which foods to avoid.

  15. bdaiss says:

Lemme at ‘em! I’m a total sugar addict. And that doesn’t go well with a family history of Type II diabetes. But I’ve been weaning myself…so give me another proverbial log to throw on the proverbial fire!

  16. Karla says:

My family has a history of diabetes and being overweight doesn’t help stop the family trend. It would be interesting to learn about what sugar does to your body.

  17. Nadia says:

because during exams (ie right now) sugar seems to be what keeps me going… that and coffee.

  18. Reg says:

I will not only read the book , but I will post a review on my blog,as well as on |Amazon. Double the hit with one giveaway!

  19. Sagan says:

This book looks great- am so interested in learning more about sugar and always looking for ways to improve my health. Wouldn’t mind learning about his credentials, too!

Also I second Reg’s comment- I will absolutely do a review of this book on my health blog if I win:)

  20. Stephanie G says:

I’d love to give this challenge a try with this book!

  21. Cindi says:

My brother was a juvenile diabetic and my mom became diabetic in her early fifties. Now, my older sister has gotten it. I would love to give her a copy of this book. She is having trouble controlling her blood sugar and I know she could benefit from this book’s information. Thanks, Cindi

  22. brooke says:

I think sugar is the devil. Its so hard to break that bad habit once I start though. I am trying to get pregnant and have read that sugar has an adverse affect on your hormones, and I am wondering if that might be one of the reasons I am not pregnant yet. Maybe this book could give me some insight.

  23. Audrey says:

I’m a sugar addict and I sorta need the permission not to feel like a bad person. My job is to get people to stop smoking. I know how addictive cigarettes are so making the comparison to sugar seems outrageous. I’d like to see the proof.

  24. Humairah Irfan says:

Yea, sugar is THE DEVIL. I wonder if the book talks about alternatives.. how good are brown sugar, honey, etc other forms for us?

My family also has a history of diabetes (from both sides) and obesity. It seems I only learn the hard way… hopefully this book would help me get off the gorging habits!

  25. Diane Penna says:

What a great contest! I would love to have this book. I have purged out sugar before, and my health really did improve. However, that was 7 years ago, and I so need the motivation to do it again. I think this book would really help!

  26. Tami says:

I am trying to give up sweets. This book would be a great help.

  27. herblady says:

I am totally addicted to sugar and I have to give it up. I’ve been prediabetic for 30 years and my doctor says it’s time to get serious about it. Thank you for the chance to win!

  28. kerri r says:

I would like this because i do eat alot of sugar and I love to read and this is something i should be reading considering i never knew how bad sugar was

  29. Ilissa H. says:

I love learning about nutrition so this would be a great book for me to read. Thanks!

  30. Riley says:

Sugar Sugar Sugar Sugar. I’ve been off it since November 26th (that’s right, no Thanksgiving pies for me), but had my first slip-up last night (an ice cream sandwich). What I think would help me have no more sugar stumbles is this book. Feeling and looking better is good motivation but knowledge will definitely increase my chances of success.

  31. Ginny says:

I’ve been concerned about sugar, I would love to read this book. It is something I have thought about, but have not taken action with. The book would be a great eye opener & motivator to cut it out!

  32. Angie says:

I would like this book because sugar is still something I have trouble cutting out of my diet and I would like to learn more. Thanks!
