How Fast Can You Talk?
New Yorker’s are renowned fast talkers. But even they can’t keep up with the world’s fastest talking woman. Meet Fran Capo, a New York stand-up comedian and motivational speaker, who made the Guinness Book of World Records by talking 603.32 words in 54.2 seconds.
To give you an idea of how fast that is Abraham Lincoln read the Gettysburg Address in 3 minutes. Fran can read it in 29 seconds.
Don’t believe me. Then check out this video and see if you can keep up with her.
So you’ve got to wonder. What causes someone to speak this fast ? Is it a gimmick or is it a medical anomaly that makes a person a ‘fast talker’ ?
According to Cognitive Scientist Kurt Burgess and Neuroscientist Barry Sterman (both featured in the video), Fran’s fast talking can be explained medically.
Apparently it’s all in the Broca, that region of the brain that provides cognitive function for language. It seems that Fran’s Broca is working overtime, allowing her to have exceptional efficiency with language, or as we used to say as kids ‘be a motor mouth’.
Amazing.
Even an overload of caffeine wouldn’t allow most of us to catch up with Fran. But, in a bizarre twist, caffeine something that slows Fran down. Go figure!

Whoa. Remind me never to let this chick try to sell me a car!
