Human Food is Toxic to Animals (What About Us?)

Lisa Speegle over at 101 Reasons Why You Can’t… has a great post about the toxicity of the crap we put in our bodies everyday. She and her husband stumbled across an interesting sign while hiking in Yosemite National Park:
The sign read:
“Why is it bad to feed the animals?”
Eating human food is not healthy for wildlife as their bodies don’t adjust well to the salt, fat and preservatives often found in our food. They gain weight, lose hair and become dependent on human food. In addition, predators, such as mountain lions, are attracted to areas with a concentration of well-fed squirrels and raccoons.”Lisa says:
As we looked at the other humans sitting around at the picnic area we noticed that many of them were overweight, if not clinically obese, losing their hair, and eating jumbo sized portions of “human food.” Yet no one noticed the sign right in front of them!
Pretty interesting. I still find the general presumption by our race that we are not animals an awesome act of hubris. Oh, and in case you didn’t catch it, the sign was paid for by your friendly Coca-Cola company.
Oh snap.
