Happy Living Tip: Morning Breath

This tip isn’t for you, of course. It’s for that other person in the bed. Here’s a very simple way to tone down the wonder that is morning breath:
1. Keep a bottle of water on the nightstand (or glass, if you don’t have a furball whose curiosity may indeed be responsible for her demise…).
2. As soon as you wake, swig a few gulps. Swish it around. Swallow.
You’re done!
To reduce bad breath in general, here are some additional easy tips:
- Eat fruit and vegetables every day!
- Drink several glasses of water daily (6-10 is good). Hydration reduces dry mouth. Who knew!
- It’s not just your teeth that need care. Brush your tongue and gums, too.
- If you drink alcohol at night, you definitely want to have some water after. I like to have a glass of wine or a couple beers in the evening, but I drink several glasses of water, too, to get the alcohol out of my system. Not only does water help remove bacteria in your mouth, it helps you sleep better anyway. So like the Aquafina pub crawl commercial says…drink!
- After brushing and flossing at night (’cuz I know you floss), rinse your mouth and drink a few final ounces of water. Don’t go and down a Nalgene bottle’s worth or anything, because you want to sleep through the night, but do have a splash or two for all our sakes’.

And good morning!

‘Straight.
Water’s the great panacea. In terms of nighttime, as an appetite suppressant it also eliminates the midnight ‘attack of the munchies’, so none of that bloated, guilty feeling the next morning that makes you skip breakfast and thus nobble your day’s energy levels.
It’s great as a whisky mixer, too.
But only if it’s Scottish mineral water.
I have to disagree Mike – water does not belong in whisky…why water down the nectar of the gods ??
I tend to drink mine neat, too. But recently I tried it with a little ice-cold spring water, and….it was a different drink. Now I like both.
(Beforehand, I was a fanatical anti-diluting zealot).
Damn, I always wanted to drink the Adult Drinks but they taste kinda nasty to me. More of a sissy beer and wine and margarita girl myself.
However, I did read some study somewhere that said green tea was good for bad breath–has natural Bad Breath germ killers or something.
A tip:
gargle twice (mourning and before bedtime) with 6 oz. of water and 1/4 spoon of salt, it keeps the mouth fresh and clean.

2 good solutions.
Brush teeth with combination of sea salt and baking soda.
Try oil pulling. It works if you keep it up every day.
Elmer, thanks for the tips. Although Oil Pulling is considered an ineffective therapy by most medical experts. This article – from an alternative health proponent – debunks oil pulling: http://www.lisabarger.com/oil_pulling_debunked.html
Great tips, Elmer. Water is a great solution to bad breath. If you would like to spice up the taste of it, add slices of lemon to it. Of course, you can chill your water if you like. It works wonder for me.
I cant drink water if it is warm/lukewarm
It just sits in my mouth and makes me gag.
but i love it when it’s cold or ICY!
