Researchers Hard at Work on the Condom Problem

Behold, the inventiveness of the human mind.
So over sperm!
In response to society’s desire to eliminate the need for the condom when it comes to preventing pregnancy*, Big Pharma is busy developing male contraception. And it ain’t your mama’s pill. (Of course it’s not.)
The National Institutes of Health recently sponsored an event called “The Future of Male Contraception” and there are a few options in the works, boys:
1. Vitamin A, plus one.
Vitamin A inhibits fertility, but it also causes illness. Pesky. Fortunately, a doctor found some old, abandoned drug that interferes with vitamin A receptors in the testis. Moving along.
2. Next option: it involves a needle.
Recognizing that men in particular love shots, researchers at Dub (that’s twice today!) have developed an effective contraceptive practice for men utilizing DepoProvera, a female contraceptive that is injected. Coupled with a daily rubdown of topical testosterone gel, the success rate is 90%.
In all seriousness, something needs to be done, because there are about 6.4 million unintended pregnancies every year in America. A third of those little peeps are unwanted, and half of those are aborted. That’s 1.3 million. More options in addition to condoms and female contraception? Bring ‘em on.
Although, in a nut (shell), what we are talking about here is trusting a husband or boyfriend or newfound friend to take his daily pill so you don’t, well, bear any undesirable consequences. What say you, ladies?
