Resolve to Change in Bunches

New Year’s Resolutions

Change, Change, Change! Change the Fool.

Remember being told that change should be accomplished in bite-sized pieces? Not to set the bar so high that you can never really succeed? Take everything one day, one step at a time?

Well, it turns out all that mind-easing positivity was a bunch of horse-puckey. The new deal is when you’re setting out to make changes for the better (uh…New Year’s Resolutions, anyone?) you should lump them into groups. Here’s the thought:

When we make multiple resolutions that all reinforce and depend upon each other, we are more likely to stick with the individual goals for the long haul.

For example, if you set a goal to reach an ideal weight, lower blood pressure, and quit smoking, rather than just committing to one of these things, you would be 20% more likely to stick with the whole lot of them, since they are co-dependent upon each other. Really, wouldn’t you feel silly when you’ve been working so hard on your diet and exercise plan, then you blow it all to heck by continuing to smoke? Of course you would. So by lumping all these single goals together to impact a much broader goal, you’ll get that constant checks and balances system that the majority of the human race thrives on.

By the way guys, a quick check of the calendar says we’re at T minus 11 and counting. It’s about time to start making those resolutions now, don’t you think?

So, tell us. What are your health-related resolutions for this year? And how are you going to achieve them? C’mon, speak up. Inquiring minds want to know!
