Ever wonder where the little guys get all their energy ?

Well, you are not alone.

Scientists at Cornell University have recently been exploring the nature of sperm power with the possibility of harnessing this sperm energy to use on nano-robots.

Huh!

Sperm driven robots!

Get real!

Remember the saying ‘fact is often stranger that fiction.’ Well, here’s the facts…

Apparently the microscopic sperm cells use a “…kind of dual-engine system to generate their energy. Organelles in a sperm cell’s midsection provide one part of its battery power, while a second process occurring in the long, spindly tail gives it an additional boast.

It’s during this second process, known as glycosis, that ATP enzymes derived from glucose bind to the sheath of a sermatozoa’s tail to give it that extra zip.

Researchers [at Cornell University] have attached three of the 10 enzymes needed to create this glycolytic pathway to nickel ions on a tiny manufactured chip. Their goal now is to attach the remaining seven enzymes, in effect creating nano-robots fueled by sperm power.”
