To piggy-back on Liz’s post from earlier today, there’s a whole other issue to be dealt with for all those tech freaks roaming the earth – the lack of a good sex life.

Of course, this is not true of everyone, just as not every blogger will suffer a work-induced heart attack. But it is becoming more and more evident that an overly-wired life does not equate to a stellar relationship in the sack.

For example, back rubs can be a bit hard to finagle while your fingers are furiously texting on your Treo. Vaulting over a laptop to move in for a kiss can be a little discerning. And (unless it’s porn) playing your favorite show on your killer plasma TV while trying to get in the groove can be distracting at best. Starting to see a trend?

In fact, thirty-seven percent of laptop owners say they use their machine “regularly” while in bed. That’s over a third of the laptop population. Yikes.

So why can’t people resist the urge to shut down, log off, or snap shut? Because 68 percent of Americans say they feel a sense of anxiety when they are not “connected”. And by anxiety, we’re talking feelings of disorientation and nervousness after being away from the Internet for a period of time. Are you one of those people?

It’s true, being wired is addicting. Keeping in touch is addicting. Staying abreast of the latest news, weather, sports, entertainment news, stock quotes…all addicting. But when it interferes in our relationships with other human beings, that is where we need to step back and view it as a damaging addiction and treat it accordingly. Make more time to communicate with your spouse or friends. Take a walk. Cook together. Make your bedroom “unplugged”. You may find your stress levels, overall health and sexual relationships will be all the better for it.
