Want to know how long your longevity is?
Then head to the Blue Zones.
Set up by Dan Buettner, author of a new book The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest (National Geographic, 2008), the website offers a Vitality Compass which lets you find out how long you’ll live given your current habits.
It sounds a little like an advertising gimmick to sell the book but not so, according to a recent New York Times article. The article, How to Live Longer Without Really Trying points out the results from the Vitality Compass are “…based on a complex, 106-page algorithm developed by Dr. Robert Kane, a physician and a professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.”
The 35 questions of the Vitality Compass are designed to provide the following answers…
Your Biological Age given your current habits.
Your Overall Life Expectancy
Your Healthy Life Expectancy
Your Blue Zone Years (ie the number of years you have gained or lost given your current behaviors)
It also provides suggestions (based on your answers) on how to feel younger and get more good years…
(Disclosure: I have not yet done the quiz. That’s this weekend’s mission. Results and anaylsis of the Vitality Compass will be given on Monday)
Meanwhile, here’s what Dan Buettner says on How To Live To 100 - Nine Healthy Habits.

We have published several longevity calculators as well. Check them out as they are loads of fun.
