One could make a bunch of (very bad) jokes about getting enough fiber into our body, or we can see how we can begin to unravel when we get too stressed, but I’ll avoid those pathetic attempts at humor.

I’m wondering why someone would do this, but I can also see that it could be fun and challenging to come up with something that looks relatively realistic. Have you ever come across some interesting body parts that have been made out of craft work?

Soap and water work great but sometimes you just feel the need to use something a little more potent  – like an alcohol based hand sanitizer.

But there’s a lot of controversy surrounding hand sanitizer products. Some people worry about the effectiveness of them. Others are concerned about the chemicals put in them – chemicals such as the endocrine disruptor Triclosan.

Easier, in some ways, to make your own. That way, you exactly what’s in it.

DIY hand sanitizer recipe

In a small bowl, mix ¼ cup each of pure aloe vera gel and grain alcohol with 5 drops of tea tree essential oil. To make it smell less pungent, add 5 drops of your favorite fragrance oil. Using a funnel, pour this blend into a bottle small enough to stash in your purse. (Rinse out an empty tube of makeup or lotion to make use of waste.)

Have a go at Open Heart Surgery. Definitely not for the faint of heart. With a simulated heart monitor beeping away, the pressure is on to perform. There’s a choice of three levels – intern, surgeon, and specialist. I should have chosen intern but I wanted to be the top gun. Bad move. As a specialist, I killed the patient within seconds. I was advised to ‘call my lawyer’.

Or maybe something a little less challenging – performing open heart surgery on a stuffed bunny . Easy you think! Think again! You have 60 seconds to shock the heart, make an incision, do some intraoperative tasks and then suture the poor bunny back up.  I tried but the poor bunny did not survive.

Don’t know about you, but my dream of being a (successful) surgeon was fading away…

But then I found Heart Operations and my faith in my abilities was restored. This is heart surgery without pressure. I soon discovered I had a hidden talent for transplant, bypass, hole in
the heart, and valve replacement surgery. In other words, no one died.

So what are you waiting for?

Gown up, grab your scalpel and start cutting…

It’s a guaranteed fun-filled (not to mention educational) way for the whole family to kill time together.

Here’s a sampling…

A police officer who steals marijuana and gives himself a drug-induced fit of panic  His conversation with the dispatcher: “I think we’re dying. We made brownies, and I think we’re dead. Time is going by really really really really slowly.”  They survived and the  police officer was lucky not to have to do time.

An Ohio man called 911 in May 2009 after his live-in adult son refused to clean his messy bedroom.

An Oregon man called 911 because a  box of orange juice had been omitted from his younger brother’s order at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

And that’s just the start of a list of bizarre and odd 911 calls. Check out the Time article for more.

Obviously no one ever told these people that 911 calls really should be for life or death situations.

After all, you know all about the ‘birds and the bees’.  Unfortunately, for some people, baby making’s not that easy. They have to think outside the square and use such methods as fertility drugs, IVF, surrogacy, and maybe even adoption.

But this couple seems to have come up with a unique way of baby making. It’s way out in left field. It will definitely make you laugh.

 

If only it was that easy for those who have trouble conceiving.

Actually, it’s a pretty clever idea – creating online wedding registry – that taps the Grey’s Anatomy’s fans into feeling that they are part of the wedding festivities, which allows them to donate in lieu of gifts to one of these three well deserving charities…

- Alzheimer’s Association
- American Skin Foundation

When contacted by the producers of Grey’s Anatomy as one of the chosen charities, the AAN foundation jumped on the offer. As foundation’s Executive Director, Catherine M Rydell, says

‘…This was an enormous opportunity to get the word out about the AAN Foundation and its mission to raise money and support for brain research. The show’s popularity and avid fan base will be an extraordinary boost to our fundraising initiatives—with 100 percent of all donations going directly to fund brain research, which is critical to developing new treatments and cures for patients.’

A $5 donation to the AAN foundation provides fans with a ‘virtual brain’ that will appear on the site’s virtual brain wall, complete with the donor’s name (and /or someone they choose to honor)

The wedding, by the way, is scheduled for 14th May.

Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject

Inoculatte : To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright

Take for example the gentleman suffering from constipation, who when advised by someone (not a health professional) to take a boiled egg, literally took the boiled egg but not by mouth. Needless to say, when he awkwardly walked into the Emergency Room and told his tale, the health professionals remained professional and refrained from cracking a smile (at least in front of the patient).

Of course, constipation is not a laughing matter. According to the HES, it accounted for three quarters (75 per cent) of emergency hospital admissions in 2006-07.

The HES coding for constipation is K59.0, but the gentleman and his boiled egg ended up with a subheading of W44 – “foreign body entering through eye or other natural orifice”. This, it turns out, is a fairly commonly used code, with 5,048 children and 5,334 adults suffered this fate (not the boiled egg, just the foreign body) in 2007-08.

I’ll never look at statistics the same again.

Also during this same period 1,243 people needed hospital treatment after falling out a tree. While most of them were boys under the age of 15, there is also quite a few over the age of 75. Guess you’re never too old to climb a tree or to fall out of it.

Although, according to the HES, it can be just as dangerous as going to bed. Seems that more than a 1,000 people between the ages of 15 and 60 fall out of bed with such a force that they needed hospital treatment.
