Video: Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery

Arthroscopic surgery is a miracle of modern medicine. The advantage of arthroscopic methods over traditional surgery is that the joint does not have to be opened up. Only two small incisions are made - one for the arthroscope and one for the surgical instruments. This reduces time, and increases the rate of success, because there is less trauma to connective tissue. (It is especially useful for professional athletes, who frequently injure joints, and require fast healing time.) There is also less scarring, because of the smaller incisions.

It’s not nearly as exciting as the four people that slept with each other last week on Grey’s Anatomy, but it’s truly a modern miracle that actually happens in our hospitals every day.
