You’re Never Too Old to Run…a Marathon.

Meet Buster Martin.

He is a man on the move.

Last year he was in the British band, The Zimmers, who made their way up the charts with a remake of the old Pete Townsend song ‘My Generation’. Nothing unique there, except that the band was made up of a group of pensioners with a combined age of over 3000 years. The youngest was 64. The oldest was 99. And they were great.

Just in case you missed it….

Well, it seems that Buster has moved on to bigger and better things. He signed on as an ‘agony uncle’ for men’s magazine FHM, offering guidance to a younger generation.

And he is running marathons. Just last week he ran a half marathon in 5 hours and 13 minutes. Now he has his sights set on the 26 kilometer London Marathon.

At a 101, he hopes the be the world’s oldest competitive runner.

This is one man who obviously doesn’t believe that age should hold you back.

Just goes to show what exercising the brain and the body will do.

Go Buster! We are keeping our fingers crossed for you.

What a cool guy! I LOVE hearing stories like this. Because of inspirational people like Buster, instead of dreading getting older, I look forward to the things I might someday accomplish.

There was a profile in my local paper the other day featuring a 60-something guy who just now recorded his own Country/Honkey Tonk/Blues CD and travels the area trying to peddle it. I instantly fell in love with his passion to make his lifelong dream come true at a “ripe” age.

Just goes to show the future is a vast place teaming with possibilities – we just have to go after them, regardless of age!! :)

It’s great to see people stay healthy throughout their life, though one thing caught my eye and I just had to check it with the BBC article…

“Just last week he ran a half marathon in 13 minutes”

That should be five hours and 13 minutes :)

    Hi Adrian,

I love guys like Buster…they are sooo inspiring.

thanks for pointing out my typo…wow, if he had really run the half marathon in 13 minutes, he would be some sort of super man…

looks like I need to slow down, at least with my typing. I’ll fix it right now.

    cheers,
    liz

    Hi Liberty,

Looks like aging might not be so bad after all. At work, I see a lot of older patients with multiple medical problems, so I love hearing about older persons living highly active and fit lives…it reminds me that age doesn’t have to = illness.
