A Jewelry Project Runway?

I’m not one for reality TV shows. I think they are stupid. But, I have to confess that I’m now hooked on Project Runway over at Bravo. I was last season too. Wouldn’t it be too cool if there was a jewelry version of this show? They could give you a bunch of wire or some beads and say, “Make a piece for Sundance.”
What I like about this show is the fact that they really show you the design process involved in creating a piece of wearable art. That, for me, is the enjoyable “reality” part of the show, not necessarily the contestants freaking out. In fact, I even talk about this some in an article I wrote called “I Want to Be a Jewelry Designer” because too often those who haven’t done it, or done it much, think after stringing a bead or two they can become a jewelry designer. The folks at Project Runway show us a whole other side to designing – the “work” side of it.
If you are also addicted to Project Runway, then there’s a great blog I recently discovered called “Blogging Project Runway.” I’m adding it to my other addiction now.

Excellent idea, I think I could get even more hooked on the jewelry version than I am on Project Runway.
I like the Sundance design contest, then the wedding band competition, maybe tiara to get the designers to do something they never did before. And for the make it out of nothing project, say, empty your purse or bag and ‘make it work’.
I’ve been thinking there should be a Jewelry Project Runway for quite some time now. I really hope they do it. I’d love to see some incredible art jewelry fashionistas go at it!
