Jewelry and Beading

Bead Writing Glamour – Not!

I’m about 2 months from the next submission date for my new mixed media jewelry book manuscript, and it’s at usually this point in writing any jewelry book that all the nit picky tasks require attending to. This is when I remember how it’s not all that fun to write sometimes, even if it does involve writing about beads and making jewelry.

To top it off, for this particular book, since it is more of a collection of jewelry artists’ work than just my own (so far I’ve only got 2 pieces in the whole book), I’ve had the unhappy task of emailing dozens of talented people with a nicely worded rejection.

As a designer and writer, I’d need at least my fingers and toes to count the number of times I’ve had work rejected. Heck, my editor rejected two other pieces I wanted to include in this book. So, though there are lots of other tasks (writing up an art log, numbering jewelry items, double checking the table of contents, etc.) that I find less then enjoyable, I have to say that the rejection emails top the list.

I guess the point of this blog post is to encourage anyone out there to keep at it. Rejection emails once in a while turn into acceptance emails.
