Been to any good bead retreats?

What’s Up Wednesday!

My friend Heather Powers hosts the Bead Cruise!

I have only ever been to one bead retreat, and it was a private affair arranged by a few close beady friends. Have you ever been to one? Was is one of the biggies or small and private like mine? What was it like? Did you enjoy it?

Here’s a short list, very incomplete I’m sure, of some of the retreats that are advertised online and in beading magazines. Do you have others to add to the list or any info you’d like to share?

Last year our Bead Society had a Bead Retreat just outside Yosemite. Paula Walters was the teacher and we had a blast. We are doing it again in a couple of weeks. Huib Peterson is our guest teacher this year. We rent rooms at a small hostel up in the mountains. Food is great too. Lots of fun.

I am not much into beading, but my mother and wife are and when you said retreat, this is what I thought of. I often travel to Homer Alaska and according to my mom, this is a wonderful bead store. http://gigsbeads.com/ They have many unusual things. My mom stops there first thing and spends a bunch of money and then sits in the house and makes haste with her new purchases almost the entire time we are there. It is truly her “bead retreat”. I have heard that they have Bed n Breakfast’s in Homer than specialize in bead retreats, but I don’t know which specific ones…..I am sure you could google it.

That’s what I mostly do, Mike…set up my own private retreat when we go on vacation. It’s a great time of bonding with my Mom. Thanks for reminding us of the alternatives :-)
