Jewelry and Beading

Found object jewelry by Jan Turner Bell

You know how as soon as you throw something out, you figure out how you could have used it for jewelry?

Not that I think Jan Turner Bell would have thrown out this shed deer antler or the wonderful arrowheads that she used in her mixed media necklace (it also doubles as wall art), but she did make at least one person almost pass out when she told him what she was going to use them for!

Jan lives on a farm that has been in her family for over a hundred years.  She has a great support system in her family, who encourage her creativity and art making.  Look at this fabulous mixed media piece that Jan created:

Interesting is a nice thing to say about this thing. Thanks, as I look at this piece — I wonder how I ever had nerve enough to send Cyndi a picture of it. I just create for my own pleasure. And as you can see I am easy to please.
I have no training and live too far in the country to get any but I do love to look at everyone’s beautiful creations. Thanks for the kind words

  2. That piece is way too over the top for every day use, but it would make a fabulous runway piece. So unique and eye catching!

I think that’s one of the things that makes this so fabulous…it’s a really special signature piece that has great meaning for the owner. I wish every piece I made for someone else could capture them perfectly :-)

      • Jan says:

Cyndi — your designs are always so beautiful. You do capture the magic in all you create. Jan

LOL! Not always by a longshot! I don’t *usually* share pieces that I’ve made that I don’t like, but I’ve had comments both on and off line from people who have hated my work and weren’t shy at all about sharing that :-) Even if someone else doesn’t like a piece, we always can learn from it.

If they hated your work — I say they are jealous… I love what you do
and the great part of it all is that you don’t mind teaching us all how
you do it along the way. And you are one of the rare artists that knows
even if we copy your work most of us will put our own jazz to it and it
will be part yours and part ours. Keep doing what you do and lol I want
to see your ugly pieces. Ha.

This piece is way over the top to be anything but a wall hanging — and way too heavy. But everyone does have a feeling about it. lol Usually shock.

No one has ever made a statement by playing it safe! I love that you’ve used the things that speak to you and have created such a one-of-a-kind piece!

        • Jan says:

I never could color between the lines. Thanks… We are building a 55 ft. by 100 ft. Quonset hut to live in — So I am always doing my thing.

Cyndi — Start a Speak your mind on what we will do when we get old.
You know sorta like “When I get old I will wear purple.”

When I get old I will wear gaudy jewelry that I have made myself. I will
admire gutsy women and I will eat chocolate brownies for breakfast.
