Jewelry and Beading

Glass bead artist Jennie Yip

I am fascinated by the slightly alchemical aspect of melting glass to create lampwork beads. I make my beads by winding molten glass around a thin steel rod to form the base bead, which I then decorate with other glass elements.

I love making both “organic” and precise beads. An organic bead is usually the result of the chemical reactions between the different glasses. On the other hand, the precision beads require placing the correct amount of glass at precisely the correct spot; it’s a great buzz when it works out. At the moment I am particularly preoccupied by glass sorts that produce metallic effects.
