No Sick Days for Indie Jewelry Makers

I’m sick.
It started Monday with a soar throat and a few aches. Tuesday and Wednesday were full-blown nose going haywire, walking around with a box of tissue that turned into a roll of TP after that was gone. Today’s Thursday and it’s now moved down to my chest for those rasping coughs that start and just don’t stop until you feel like you’re about to pass out.
Through it all, though, I’ve had to work at my jewelry making job. Yup, that’s one of the things you may not think about when you want to be an indie jewelry artist. No sick time, Baby.
I called in sick to work today at my “real crappy” part-time job, and I don’t doubt many people there don’t think I’m sick because since they only see me a few days a week, they don’t think I’m working. It’s hard to imagine exactly what I do when I’m not there doing the same thing they are. So, that must mean I’m sitting on my bum watching TV and eating bon-bons.
In realtiy, over the past few days while passing out every few hours, I’ve updated two blog sites, one regular jewelry making site including newsletter, and edited the dummy copy of my latest book, including comments mailed to 2 editors. Oh, I’m also trying to track down a check that was owed to me over a week ago, and find out why a few books never made it to contributors.
A far cry from bon-bons.
