Oo La La….Project Runway in Paris Again

tower.bmp On last week’s episode of Project Runway, we found the crew in Paris, France. Poor Angela basically got off the plane only to turn around to get back on. However, the rest of the designers are now treated to a few days in the original fashion center of the world. Of course, this also means they are going to have their next challenge there as well and Catherine Malandrino, the continuing guest judge, gives them the run down – They are to have about $375 US dollars and only a couple of days to whip up a couture gown. Tim explains to them (and us of course) that by “couture” they expect to see a lot of hand detail, such as embroidery, beads, and the like.

All this in 2 days? Yikes!

Judging will be done in Paris and in New York, so the designers and Paris models will attend a party where the models will show their stuff and the judging will begin. That means after returning to New York their usual group of models will also wear the same gowns and do the usual runway thing.

Back in New York, the winner is decided. It’s our beloved Jeffrey with a gown that, while it looks like it went through his usual shredder device, the fabric is gorgeous. And, of course, as usual, the judges are thrilled that he took a risk in making something so….weird. But, I ask, really, what kind of risk are you taking when you have immunity? He could have made a potatoe sack and been safe.

Yes, I know Jeffrey did a lot of hand work on this, and this is pretty much the opposite of the losing dress made by Vincent, who basically slapped it together with fabric glue. Yes, couture glue, folks! Not only that but the fabric looked like something you might cover your couch with, and it was just an overall ugly thing of a dress. So, Vincent is out.

Now, for the four remaining designers. Yes, can you believe the season is almost over and next week we will only have five left?

Laura: Yawn, yawn, yawn. I feel for her. Obviously, her pregnancy is making things more physically demanding on her, but she keeps making the same dress over and over again, and it’s not even that interesting of a dress: black, long, low V-neck. This time, she added long sleeves, a huge ruffle collar, and cuffs.

Kayne: Tim called his dress a “hot mess,” but honestly, I loved it when it moved down the runway. I think maybe if you saw it in person it didn’t look finished enough perhaps, but for me on TV, it looked wonderful and very couture. But, alas, I’m very concerned we might be losing Kayne soon because the judges just don’t get him.

Michael: Poor, poor Michael was totally freaked over this, but he came up to the plate and made a really interesting dress with tons of hand stitching on the top. But, he knew it wasn’t up to his usual standards, and to make matters worse, some nasty Frenchie threw an egg at his model while they were going to the party!

Uli: The judges loved her dress, as did I, and I really thought she might have won this one, but it was not to be. Again, it was totally Uli, but she toned it down with a mute pale gray fabric. Beautifl dress!

So, now our designers are “home” so to speak, and we are really down to the most talented in the group.
