Quaint and picturesque don’t even begin to describe Orvieto! Every corner you turn, there’s another picture postcard just waiting to be snapped

My sweetheart, Mike

Me and darling daughter, Dani
To see all the posted pictures from our trip, not just the jewelry-related ones, please visit my mixed media art blog, Layers Upon Layers. Here’s the entire Italy trip category for you, which I’ll be posting to for the next few weeks!

Its lovely and your family is lovely, Cyndi — is not the homeland of my ancestors just about perfect? Its so sad that they had to flee such a lovely homeland for any reason, but it must have seen wise in the early 20th. century — it makes me cry, though! I’ll tour your sites tomorrow, but a quick question – did you see any Italian lace while you were there? I always wanted to learn pillow lace.
Oh, it was the most glorious country I’ve ever seen! How I hope you’ll be able to get there one day
We saw tons of lace while we were in Venice, as the island of lacemaking, Burano, is right in the lagoon. We went to Murano to tour the glass factories, but didn’t make it to Burano. Beautiful beautiful stuff!
My mom & grandma tatted, crocheted, knitted lace and did some needle-lace — lace is just about an obsession with me from my very earliest years. I haven’t tatted this year at all and I’ve got to clean off my poor work table and get it in order and start tatting and beading for Christmas – my fingers get itchy for beads and lace. I used to iron the linens for our Catholic church when a girl and loved the needle lace but mom refused to teach me the art. Maybe someday I will learn it on my own. I have made some very fine crocheted and tatted lace pieces though (that I can be proud of.). Oh – and no, I have no example of my grandma Rosa’s work and only a few of my mother’s, things tend to get lost in poor families when they move. I’ve seen a tatted jewelry style that is intriguing, though I never bought the book. I’ve heard of Burano, though – and the glass factories. Oh, my! fortune shines upon you, Cyndi !
You’re right about that! We enjoyed the time thoroughly, because we were fully aware that it would probably never be repeated. Unless Dani decides to go live there, of course!
I am so green right now lol but you are so right postcard pics it must have been wonderful.
Wow, it is beautiful! Those pictures do look like postcards.
It really was terrific. Sorry to spread jealousy, but I just *have* to share!
