Do you mind if I ask you a question? When you are working on a large project like this, and you have multiple focal pieces, how do you attach them to form the final piece? Following this piece, I saw how you had the pieces seperate, and then somehow managed to attach them. However when you did the step by step for Treasure Chest you have it all on one piece. Is there a specific reason, or is it that you can approach it differently each time you create a project?

  2. Cyndi says:

Well, this one is really all just one piece too. I filed in all the spaces between the focal points with seed beads and pearls. I do sometimes make necklaces that use several different pieces, and they can be joined with peyote stitch, or with wire, or sometimes just strung together. There are lots of examples on http://www.wildestdreamsdesigns.com
If you see one there that you’d like to know about, I’d be glad to describe the technique to you :-)

    Thanks for replying so quickly!
I think I misphrased what I was trying to say, but you managed to answer anyway, danke. ^^ Now that I know how you attach them, how do you join it to the ultra suede? Is it sewn onto it, the way you do with the edges, or is it just glue?
Your website- Actually I’ve looked at your website before and I love looking through it. Stumbling on it was actually what convinced me to give this a try.

The beadwork is all sewn directly onto the suede top, and the backing is a separate piece of suede that is sewn around the edges as you mentioned. The large focal pieces are glued down in place first, and then I bead directly onto the suede around them. Does that make sense?

  5. Cyndi says:

BTW, sometimes I use buckram or another type of fabric instead of suede for the top piece!

I’m glad that you’ve decided to give bead embroidery a try…it’s addictive ;-)

  6. Mitsu says:

Yes, that makes perfect sense, thanks! after deciding I wanted to do it I saw so many ways of doing it, and I just wasn’t sure which would work. Thank you for taking the time to explain for me. ^^
I can tell, I can’t seem to put my piece down ><

  7. Cyndi says:

No problem! There are a number of different ways to approach it, and none of them are more right than the others…it just depends upon how heavy your piece is going to be and what materials you’re most comfortable working with.
