Jewelry and Beading

Pssssttt…wanna check out a new magazine?

bab.jpg

Having just started publication in 2007, Beads and Beyond is off to a ripping good start! Yes, our friends in the UK now have a magazine to call their own, and it’s a really good one :-) I received a package full of sample magazines, DVDs, and more from the good folks at Beads and Beyond this week, and I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Starting with the magazine itself…

B&B doesn’t just cover jewelry, but it also delves into home decor. It doesn’t just cover beads, but also mixed media jewelry, wood, clay, and silver clay. Macrame, wire, gemstones, shrink plastic…you name it, they cover it. One of my favorite articles was on using aluminum to make twisted metal “beads” for a necklace.

***FREE STUFF ALERT***FREE STUFF ALERT***

So, here’s the deal! I have 3 issues of the magazine to give away: March, April, and May. With apologies to my friends in the UK, Europe, and Australia, I’m going to have to limit this particular giveaway to the US and Canada. Would you like to see what your friends in the UK are learning? Leave me a message and tell me why the UK rocks, and I’ll pick three winners next Monday!

I think the UK rocks because of the cool accent, the Beatles, Princess Di and now this great new mag. I would love to win a copy.

  2. Catherine says:

The UK rocks because, first, this nation came from Britain, and since we rock, it has to rock, too. Second, they have some of the best actors in the world. Hugh Lorey, Orlando Bloom, need I go on? Third, who doesn’t love a good British accent? Fourth, they drive on the left-hand side of the road! Fifth, they have cool names for things, like lifts, bonnets, chips, and crisps. And now, they have their own beading magazine. The UK totally rocks!

  3. Paul says:

All those jewelled, wire-wrapped and jumpringed objects such as crowns, sceptres, sword hilts and pommels, chainmail and other jewelry worn by the British Royals certainly inspired the fashion ideas of the bourgeoisie. Now this knave would like to make similar things fit for a queen or king, no matter what time, knight or day.

I’m still just a pawn to the love of beads.

    Afternoon tea with scones!

  5. Chris says:

‘ello! Why does the UK rock? Because they gave us Queen (RIP Freddie) and the Beatles, and because they have a Queen and King and princesses etc, which inspired all our fairytales from childhood. Would love to create something with a British flair from this unique mag. Thanks!

I would like to write you a cute little diddy, but I thought maybe I’ll just speak from my heart instead. I am in the process of starting my biz on ETSY (which I’m very excited about) and I am always looking through mags to get ideas. The other reason I would like to receive these mags is because I really feel connected on some weird level (maybe a before life) with that part of the world. I absolutely love PBS, BBC, Jane Austens’ stories, the accent, my tea (every day) and mostly their personalities. I love making wearable art and things for the home as well, so truelly these mags would be a good fit for me. Thanks:)

  7. Juliana says:

UK rocks because my family is from there! I got to visit once and mostly I remember the the old castles. That is why the UK rocks…lots of castles!

  8. abeadlady says:

I used to work with nurses from the UK. What a bunch of wonderful women. Now, I correspond with beaders from there. In this forty year span, I have to say it’s the people from the UK that make it rock.

  9. Anna says:

UK rocks because besides all mentioned above they also gave us and keep giving the best book authors.
Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones Diary )and more.

  10. Jennifur says:

Everyone is absolutely correct, One of the First Greatest World Powers, Princesses and Princes,Beatles, castles, hunky actors, charming accents its all great and yes its true, the people. I’ve chatted with people all over the world and their friendliness and manners stand above the crowd. I also am starting a jewelry business like many others.
So to all the great answers and wonderful attitudes Good Luck, what wonderful things to say about a country that may not even be yours

  11. Melissa Lee says:

I would love to see this new magazine. I lived in England in the 1990s doing postgraduate work in English Renaissance Literature. The UK rocks for me, because it’s the home to all of those wonderful writers like Shakespeare, Jonson, Donne, Herbert, etc., etc. and because you can see all sorts of wonderful theatre not only in London but throughout the country. Yay!

  12. Laurie Brown says:

First and foremost, the UK rocks because Hugh Laurie is from there, as is Torchwood and Dr. Who. They have Stonehenge, the NHS, castles, Carnaby Street, Whitby Gothic Weekend, and some of the greatest gardeners and garden writers in the world. They provided us with the Victorian Era and all that it entailed, including the Crystal Palace. I have wonderful friends who are UKers. What is *not* to love about the UK? So I would *love* one of these magazines!

  13. Carol says:

I would love to razzle, dazzle you with why the UK rocks, but, quite honestly…I don’t know!!! I have never been there, would love to though. I do love all the pomp and circumstance, love the idea of royalty!!! I live in So. California, so the landscape looks so beautiful and so different than Ca. I think the magazine looks really interesting. Just a great looking cover, so I would really LOVE to have a copy. Oh, I forgot, I also love that you drive on the “other” side of the street and the British bachelor was the best one ever!!! How am I doing????

  14. Tammy says:

The UK rocks because there is such a mix of fashion forward funkiness and old world tradition! You have all the magazines looking to the UK for trends and then you have the Queen and the tradition of the royal family (and her grandchildren mixing the two together!), all the historical sites….I’d love to visit this wonderful place, but I’d settle for the magazine hehe!

  15. Hey Cyndi,

Would absolutely LOVE to see this! As someone new to the world of Jewelry design it will be a big help!

  16. Kitty says:

I would love to have a copy of these magazines! The covers have looked fantastic, and I’ve been dying to get my greedy little beading hands on some!

Well, of course the UK rocks Cyndi! The Beatles came from the UK, and as someone else mentioned Orlando Bloom…and Elton John, and of course, Terry Pratchett! (Of course Terry Pratchett makes the whole world a rockin’ place!)

    Kitty

  17. I’d love to visit the UK. Why it rocks? Proper English is spoken here, tea, magnificent scenery, great landmarks, BBC and some of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen. Cash In The Attic, What Not To Wear, Ground Force, Are You Being Served, the list goes on. Plus, there is nothing like sitting down with a good murder mystery set in London, shrouded by fog!

I’d love to have one of these magazines to have a chance to see jewelry trends on the other side of the pond!

  18. Roberta says:

Never met a bead magazine I didn’t like. Would love to see if this one is up to standard!! You take care.

  19. Sharon says:

I think, with all the history in the UK, it would be interesting to see their take in designing jewelry. I would love to visit the UK and learn more of their history, especially their jewelry.

  20. Terri says:

I think the UK rocks because they have Buckingham Palace! I’d love to visit there one day and see if I could crack up one of the stoic faced guards!
    HA!
