Jewelry and Beading

Question of the month: What’s your favorite tool?

Here’s mine! Yes, even for jewelry making. I love my pliers and my needles, but my camera is still #1 in my heart!

What’s yours? Send me a picture or even just a statement about your favorite, and I’ll post it along with a link to your work on your blog or website! Use the subject line J&B favorite tool, and email cyndi @ b5Media.com (remove the spaces).

The always important pliers. {Sigh} yes, I love mine too, Sharon!

Pliers are great, but the jewellery tool I like most are the mandrels I use for coil and ring making. I’m not sure if I should practice more to be consistent or go for speed by using the mandrel.

Generically, my favourite tool is the can opener, by which I stay fed. :)

It may sound odd, but my favorite tool is an old pocket knife that opens one-handed. It wasn’t even part of my beading kit until I had the end of a string I wanted to cut (gripped between one hand and my teeth) and reached for my scissors…which had disappeared again. I saw the knife, grabbed it, flipped it open and found it would give a really close cut right next to the bead.

I have used it hundreds of time since, it gives a really precise cut, and it never seems to disappear like scissors. :)

Speed and accuracy by means of a tool…good deal! And a can opener LOL!! Love it, Paul!

Mathi, that sounds like a brilliant solution to the problem. I might try a knife instead of my wire cutters in tight spots. Thanks for the suggestion!
